The bedding layer is the grit directly under the pavers. It evens out the last unevenness so every paver sits level. The planner calculates it from your surface area, on the same shopping list as the pavers and the sub-base.
How the planner calculates bedding
- Bedding is always 4 cm of 2/5 mm grit, whatever the load class.
- Volume is area × 4 cm. The weight uses about 1.5 t per m³.

Which grain size do I need for the bedding?
2/5 mm grit is common, 1/3 mm is also used. The right grain depends on the paver format. The planner gives you the quantity; ask your builders’ merchant which grain suits your pavers.
How thick should the bedding be?
3 to 5 cm after compaction is standard, and the planner uses 4 cm. You rarely need more, because the crushed stone underneath carries the load.
